Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar said a P279.3-million slope protection project along Taguig River was completed.

The protective structure aims to prevent flooding caused by river overflow in the cities of Taguig and Pateros to ensure a safer place for residents in the two areas, which are prone to river overflowing during the rainy season.

“As a tributary of Pasig River, Taguig River bounds places in Taguig and Pateros that are very susceptible to flooding. With the speedy completion of this project, residents can be more relieved knowing that a structure now safeguards their lives and properties,” the secretary said.

The project was completed within six months. Its implementation involved the construction of slope protection with bank improvement. It was constructed in several phases and subprojects situated along Taguig Bridge, M.L. Quezon Bridge, and Taguig River East and West Bank.

Funded under the 2018 and 2019 General Appropriations Act (GAA), the project was reported to be a part of a proposed linear park and roadway which will serve as an alternate route to decongest traffic in Taguig.
