San Juan eyes completion of vaccination in August
San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora said the city is now getting close to achieving herd immunity against COVID-19 after vaccinating over 70,000 of its target population against the coronavirus disease, according to a report by Manila Bulletin.
“As of yesterday, we have vaccinated 73,987 people out of 85,400 and that represents 86.6 percent already of our target population to be vaccinated,” Zamora said in an interview with CNN Philippines.
He added that the city now only needs to vaccinate 11,413 more individuals or around 13 percent of the target population.
The city government intends to give the eligible population their first dose in the middle of July and have everyone fully vaccinated by August.
“At the rate we’re going, I believe these targets are achievable as long as constant supply would be on hand, I don’t think there will be any problem,” Zamora said.
San Juan City received its first shipment of over 1,800 doses of Moderna vaccines on Tuesday night and immediately administered them to its residents the next day.
The mayor said the city government will open another vaccination site to further boost its vaccination program.
“We will be opening a 3rd vaccination site soon at the V-Mall, Greenhills Shopping Center. This will allow us to increase our daily vaccination capacity to around 4,000 up to 5,000 a day,” Zamora said.
The local government unit opened its second vaccination hub at the Theater Mall Cinemas 1 and 2 of Greenhills Shopping Center last June 1 as it started the inoculation of the A4 (economic frontliners) priority group.
