DICT, San Juan distribute learning devices
The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and San Juan City provided learning devices for public school students which could be of help in the online learning scheme amid the pandemic, according to a report by GMA News.
According to Mayor Francis Zamora, a total of 1,000 laptops; 12,500 tablets; and 1,000 pocket WiFis were given to students enrolled in the city's public schools from kindergarten to high school, including SPED students.
"'Yung bilang ng tablets and laptops na nilaan sa San Juan ng DICT ay sapat na sapat po sa bilang ng enrollees kahit may humabol pa," Zamora told reporters during the turnover of the gadgets.
"'Yung tablets kasi para sa lahat ng public schools sa San Juan. Lahat ng San Juaneñong mag-aaral sa public school, except Pinaglabanan's Grade 3 to 6 students sapagkat sila, laptop 'yung kanila dahil digital learning sila. All other schools distance learning,-" he added.
Zamora expressed gratitude to the DICT for being a partner in ensuring that the online learning needs of students are provided despite the health crisis.
The mayor noted that the San Juan City government did not use its own funds for the gadgets.
"Kabuuang pondo na nagamit dito ay nagmula sa DICT... Walang pondo na galing sa San Juan local government. Kaya kami ay nagpapasalamat kay Secretary Honasan at DICT sapagkat ang pondo ay galing sa national government and were very thankful na napili nila ang San Juan bilang pilot city," Zamora said.
Meanwhile, DICT chief Gringo Honasan said the agency chose to help San Juan because it has plans and vision. He, however, said the DICT is also assisting other areas across the country.
Honasan said they would also distribute learning devices in other parts of the country as the education sector was one of those gravely affected by the pandemic.
"Actually, ginagawa namin ito sa buong bansa. Noong isang araw nandoon kami sa Zambales, last week nandoon kami sa Baguio. Ina-apply natin at sinusunod natin 'yung plano ni Presidente para sa blended learning, harnessing the power of ICT and digital technology," Honasan said.
"Coordinated tayo sa lahat ng department para mapatupad ito in the long term. Kahit na sino ang presidente, secretary, mayor, governor, tuloy-tuloy ito dahil long term," he added.
